iPhone OS 4.0

Its been quite some time that iPhone is into the tech buzz and that's been loud every time we heard it. From the day it was launched, people including reviewers were craving for a few glitches to be covered which apple dint appear to be worried about till it announces the 4.0 OS version. Yes, you are right. Steve Jobs has announced the release of the iPhone OS 4.0 for beta testing and what we hear from Steve and the dev-tech buzz is it hosts the long waited Multi-Tasking capability, the area where iPhone is used to loose score with other mobile operating systems like the android and the Palm OS in the market.

With the iPhone OS 4.0 devs beta released for download right after its announcement, hands-on videos of the new version of the Apple platform are spreading like wildfire. Well, after doing the most of the heavy lifting for you the gathered videos most worthy of your attention are presented here.

ahaaa!! hold on guys.. this isnt the fun and the new OS doesnt elate every one, as it is only for the 3GS version of the iphone and not for the 3G version. Existing Indian iPhone owners will have to live with an iPhone with no multitasking for the rest of their life unless Steve shows some mercy. And, iPad owners or people dreaming to own one should have to hold their breath till the time around Q3 2010 when the OS update is announced to happen for FREE!! you heard it right, iPads are released with the NOTE that they are eligible for free upgrade till Version 4.0 (if anyone has taken a look at the docs that come along with the boxed iPad).

Well, the iPhone 3GS owners dont have to rush to get their iphones updated and try watching out how the multitasking works, as the apps that are in the market (iStore) as on date don't have anything to do with the multitasking feature that is being made available. What Apple did was, it released and new API which the app developers should make use of in order to make their app be able to support multitasking or to run in the behind when minimised. So, users are at the mercy of the developers' interest to walk that xtra mile. But among those apps that come along with the iPhone 3GS as pre-installed, users are free to find the multitasking.

The videos give a brief overview of the features introduced by the iPhone OS 4.0 and their performance. Despite being still in the beta stages of its development the platform is pretty steady and nicely performing already. See for yourselves

Apart from the multitasking we have got some other things also to be talked about that come along with this OS version release.
  • Drag an app on to the other (after you make them appear as wobbling which you get after a long press on the screen on the icon of any app) and make a new folder on the home screen. This helps if you tired of browsing through you n number of home screens which might be because of huge app count on your phone.
  • The camera has got a zoom feature which is sweet and simple, a slide bar added on the screen where you view the image to be captured.
  • The spell check has been enhanced
  • To reiterate, the multitasking comes with a bar on the bottom of the screen where in the running apps are listed like a scroll. How ever, at any point of time you can see only 4 apps that are running unless you opt to swipe the screen either left or right.
To the apple freaks, here we have another video:

With this upgrade, Apple rushes with an increased speed into the market to beat others but to be honest in appraising, android and palm OS should be called good as this multitasking has been their age old feature.
