With the nexus one making big into the market with the snapdragon processor, there has been a stage setup for mobile processor coming up with processor clock speeds matching regular netbook/notebook. On the same lines is the HTC HD series been launched. If we remember it right it has been jus more than an year that the HTC HD hit the markets with about a price tag more than 35K INR, which didnt leave the mobile as one targeting the mid-level budget consumers, and now we have its successor the HD2 with the OS (winmo 6.5) the next version.
Clear specs reveal that there is a clear boost up in the screen size making it close to a palm top and more than a mobile. It has got a gorgeous 4.3 inch screen and capacitive touch screen unlike the HD the former version. A quick comparison of the HD and HD2 can be very well viewed here but if we have to talk the real highlights of whats more or new in this is the capability of the HD2 to become a ready made wifi hotspot. The OS announced is the winmo 6.5 but there has been a word about no chance of upgrading the 6.5 to the upcoming 7.0 version that is expected to launch in 2010-Q4 (with Microsoft's announcement that there will be zero chances of customizing the UI). If the chance of this happening is zero then we will definitely have to think about buying this monster unless one is really eager to carry a 4.3 inch screen with him.
Be it a time to watch movie or do browsing on the web, the screen makes out to be a nice platform. The RAM has been given a significant boost along with the Qualcomm processor being replaced with the Snapdragon, which is a clear sign of heavy duty capabilities. HD2 has got the regular FB, Twitter and Youtube widgets shipped along with the piece in box. The handset is available in US market with unlocked version at about 579 USD and with T mobile for 199 USD and 2 yr contract (special T mobile features are available too). There has been no word about its release in Indian Market which is what I am waiting for.
There is nothing to be talked about any Out Of Box feature available on this phone except for the big screen easing out the comfort of watching movie (preloaded Transformer with the T Mobile version). The T Mobile version of the HD2 has got the Swype feature with it helping physical Keyboard fans to feel comfortable with the accuracy of typing which is enhanced by the monstrous screen. Over all, the mobile is pretty handsome device for those people who are ok to go with winmo 6.5 and it is one of its kind that gives us chance to talk about the biggest mobile screen as on date.
In all, a buyer of this mobile will have to live with the age old winmo 6.5 and the clunky menus and hard multi task handling stuff. How ever the buyer will be blessed with a screen good for movies and sharp shooting 5 MP camera and an LED Flash. Now it is user's choice if he should go with the T Mobile version US or Unlocked version of US or the Unlocked version of non US, for there are quite some variances in the spec of all the versions.
